WickedPixel RSS WordCloud

Do you know what a WordCloud/TagCloud is? - Then skip all this babble and go straight to making your OWN!

If not then perhaps your should read this to get an idea!

So what is a WordCloud? - Actually a very similar service is already running so there's nothing new to this! - However the concept is so interesting that I wanted to learn about it myself. So here's my learning:

A WordCloud gives a quick overview of a large information.

A WordCloud is made from a large chunk of text which have had all common words like 'you', 'i', 'the' etc. etc filtered away.

What is left is a list of most-used words from that text-source with the most common words displayed in a large size.

This creates a CloudScape where which gives an imminent overview of what's happening. For example this is what's happening on WickedPixel:

BBC WordCloud

But WickedPixels WordCloud is just silly stuff!

Imagining doing the same for BBC or another news channel like here:

In no time you'll have an overview of the most important things happening right now. Powerful stuff in a world of information overload.

This is of course only a simple service built in an afternoon. Better ones have direct links, color coding, and have better stop words to filter out annoyances.

Create your own WordCloud

Enough rambling - want to try it yourself? Well it's your lucky day! I've crafted up a little AJAX script below where you can paste the feeds into and run them either separately or combine upto 5 different..

- But first you need to get some RSS-feeds. If you're not already using RSS then I can only recommend looking into it. RSS is a way of delivering News to YOU without you have to go to 1 million different web pages. You can learn more about RSS from BBC or set up your own free RSS news at Bloglines.com reader which will take 5 minutes of your time and save your hours per month.

To save you time here's a few RSS links - copy paste them into the form below and 'Fetch the Cloud'
